"Rocks with Wings"

Rocks With Wings
(2002, 113 min.) US
Director: Rick Derby
Produced in association with Native American Public Telecommunications.

Rocks with Wings, filmed over the course of 13 years, is an indelible portrait of the Lady Chieftains, the legendary girl 's basketball team from Shiprock, New Mexico. Primarily kids from the nearby Navajo reservation, the Chieftains were coached by Jerry Richardson, an African American from Texas who came to the dusty town fresh out of college and developed a desire to build a powerful girl 's basketball program.
