In the early 1880s, this Shawnee leader harnessed the energies of a spiritual revival to create an unprecedented military and political confederacy committed to stopping the westward expansion of the United States. Two centuries later, Tecumseh lives on as a potent symbol of Native pride and pan-Indian identity.
