 Writer and filmmaker Velma Kee Craig (Navajo) has produced film scripts, short stories and poetry and begun a video magazine about Native American artists. In 2008 she participated in Native Women in Documentary Film, a roundtable discussion at NMAI in Washington, D.C. Craig’s new short film, In This Manner, I Am, had its world premiere at the 2010 First People’s Festival in Montreal, and its U.S. premiere at the 2011 Native American Film + Video Festival. Craig is a graduate of Arizona State University with a BA in English literature and a minor in American Indian studies. She lives with her family in Mesa, Arizona, where she and her husband, director Dustinn Craig, are co-directors of the film company BetterOnes Productions.
"I believe there is power in visibility. I am responsible
for what I put out there. I would like my mark on everything that
comes from me to be clear and evident. I need everything that
I produce to have meaning, to serve some purpose."
