Nils Gaup

Nils GaupNils Gaup (Sámi) is currently in post-production on Kautokeino 1852, a 35mm major motion picture about the Kautokeino Rebellion, a historic incident, which took place in response to the confiscation of Sámi reindeer herds. His ancestor Aslak Hætta was executed for his role in the uprising. Gaup has made 12 films, including Pathfinder and Head Above Water. Both films won Amanda Awards for Best Film, considered Norway's top honor, and in 1988 Pathfinder received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Film. Both films were also remade in North America. Gaup graduated from the Statens Teaterhøgskole in Oslo, Norway, where he studied acting, and co-founded the Beaiwáš Sámi Theater in 1981. He was born in Kautokeino, Norway.
