February 2009

Courtney M. Leonard (Shinnecock) is an artist and teacher, residing on her tribe’s reservation on Long Island, New York. After graduating with an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design, Leonard returned to Long Island to share her passion for the visual arts and teach.  She participated in a production workshop in Boston organized by ReelNative, a program for artists and new media makers that has been developed as a part of the WGBH series We Shall Remain, producing a short that reflects her responses to the beaching of a whale near her reservation.
