She is the founder and co-chair of Chase the Blues, an annual blues dance party and auction that has raised over $300,000 for the pediatric ER and Trauma Center at Children's Hospital in Oakland, California. Montgomery is a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Writers Guild of America, and the Writers Guild of Canada. She graduated from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and lives in Piedmont, California.

"For me, writing is very similar to Improv. I tend to "become" each character along the way. Sometimes the process becomes so natural and instant, it feels like the characters have a mind of their own and that the script is just writing itself. That's how it was with Christmas in the Clouds. Once it's on the page, bringing comedy to the screen is all about casting,
coverage, and editing. And it also helps to be able to go without sleep for
months at a time!"
