Zenaida Pérez Guitierrez

April 2007

Zenaida Pérez GuitierrezZenaida Pérez Guitierrez (Mixe) is from Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca, where she works for Radio Jënopj, as a founding producer and program host. She has participated in video workshops given by Ojo de Agua Comunicación in Oaxaca in 2005 and 2006. Her first video, Centro Cultural El Pachote, screened at the 2006 Festival Internacional de Cine y Video de los Pueblos Indígenas in the city of Oaxaca in Mexico. Pérez received a degree in Communication Sciences at the Universidad de Oaxaca.

"I utilize the mediums of radio, television, and video to spread the worldview of my people, the cultural heritage of the First Peoples, so that others will come to know and recognize that the indigenous communities, with their traditions and lifeways, are and will continue to be the key to reconstruct this chaotic world that, the more it progresses, leads us to the abyss. We look, then, with new eyes to our origin, that gives us the key to a sustainable future, where man and nature live in harmony. To this we should aspire, not a few of us, not the majority, but all the human beings of the world."
