Deidra Lynn Peaches

February 2009

Deidra Lynn PeachesDeidra Lynn Peaches (Navajo) began her career in film at the age of 14, when she made Imagine for the National Museum of the American Indian's showcase "Thanksgiving Revisited: New Views by Young Filmmakers." In the summer of 2007 she participated in the Superfly Filmmaking Experience in Seattle. Peaches frequently collaborates with childhood friend Donavan Seschillie. Their short films were selected for the 2007 Navajo cinema showcase curated by Navajo director Nanobah Becker at the Ojo Encino Chapter House in the Eastern Navajo Agency and for the 2008 Monument Valley Film Festival in Kayenta, Arizona. Peaches, an alumna of the Outta Your Back Pack Media, a youth outreach program in Flagstaff, currently attends Northern Arizona University, studying electronic media and film.

"In an era where stability and hope is brittle, the strength of one's imagination and creativity is limitless, only if they allow themselves to dream. My Native American background is shown primarily through my work ethic. By utilizing different instruments and incorporating many ideas, I can create what I need in order to produce a singular story. Through the patience of my grandmother and the outspokenness of my grandfather, I believe that, as an individual, I am allowed to not limit myself to stereotypes but allow my thoughts to flourish through alternate perspectives."
