May 2010

Dallas Dallas (Cowichan) is a video and performance artist and actress, exploring in her work the marginalization of Native peoples by the Canadian government. Dallas' professional career includes many years of performing with Headlines Theatre, Full Circle, The Firehall Arts Centre, Spirit Song Theatre, and other ensembles. She has worked as the stage manager for the Okanagon Native Youth Theatre Group in Penticton, British Columbia. She received her BFA in Media Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dallas (formerly known as Dolores Dallas) lives in Vancouver, and grew up in Duncan, British Columbia.

"It is through my art and writing that I have found my place and voice in First Nations society. I am an artist in two and three-dimensional works, a performing artist, writer, singer and actor, creator of video and photography. I feel as an artist it is my job to bring my views and experiences to the public's attention, no matter how trivial or controversial my subject matter may be. If my works can create discussions then my work is successful. It is through these discussions that people come together. As artists we can create positive changes in our environment and our societies if change is needed."
