Darlene NaponseDarlene Naponse (Ojibwe) is a filmmaker and poet from Whitefish Lake First Nation in Ontario. Her company Pine Needle Blankets Productions has won the 2004 First Nations Business Award, given by Northern Ontario Business. Naponse sees filmmaking as a way to generate jobs in her community. The majority of the cast and crew of her feature film Cradlesong were Ojibwe residents of Whitefish Lake First Nation. Her films have screened at the Sundance Film Festival and have been broadcast in Canada on Aboriginal People's Television Network and Women's Television Network. Naponse was certified in multi-media design and production by Humber College in Toronto and received a BA from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.

"My work relates to my daily existence. What I write and make films about is what breathes and lives beside me. My commitment is to create images, sounds, textures, and movement of First Nations people as they are, creating poetic descriptions and visceral passages. Mother Earth is always a character in every piece I create."
