Warwick Thornton (Kaytetye) is the award-winning writer and director of the feature film Samson and Delilah, which received the Camera D’Oraward at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. He has also written and directed several short films, most recently Nana, for which he won the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival and the Emerging Filmmaker Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Thornton’s short film Green Bush, about a night in the life of a community radio station in Central Australia, won Best Short in the Panorama Section of the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival and two Dendy Awards for Australian Short Film at the 2005 Sydney Film Festival. After graduating from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School, Thornton began his career as a cinematographer. He has worked as the Director of Photography for many films noted for their beautiful images, beginning in 1998 with Radiance (d. Rachel Perkins). He continues to shoot documentaries with the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) and the Australian national broadcasters ABC and SBS. Thornton was cinematographer for several episodes of the SBS series First Australians, which received the 2009 Logie Award for Outstanding Documentary.
