"Finding Our Talk: Hawaii"Finding Our Talk: Hawaii
(2009, 24 min.) CANADA
Director: Tracey Deer (Mohawk)
Producer: George Hargrave, Paul M. Rickard (Cree)
Produced in association with: APTN

A sustained effort by Hawaiians determined to keep their language alive began in 1986, with the lifting of a ban on the Hawaiian language. This video shows the movement’s success, from language “nests” for infants to post-graduate studies and the nation’s first mainstream television news program in a Native language.
