Elizabeth Day

July 2006

Elizabeth DayElizabeth Day (Ojibwe) is an emerging director from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her latest project Beaded Road was selected by Tribeca All Access Connects in 2006, a professional development program which gave Day and screenwriter Wenonah Wilms (Ojibwe) the opportunity to attend the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival and pitch Beaded Road to industry leaders. The two filmmakers also collaborated on the short film Sunshine, which was funded through an Access Grant from IFP Minnesota. A first short by Day, Manidoo Nabaa/His Spirit Is Sleeping, was funded by the Leech Lake Indian Reservation and screened at the IFP Minnesota's Central Standard Film Festival and the Fargo Film Festival. Day was born on the Leech Lake Reservation and grew up in Minneapolis. She studied film production at Minneapolis College.

"Natives are storytellers; it's in the blood. Growing up I was surrounded by great storytellers. Some of my most favorite memories are of just sitting around the table and listening to my family talk and telling stories. It was almost like a contest of who could tell the best story of the night, who had the best timing, who could tell the funniest jokes, who had the most touching and enduring ending. It was very natural for me to pursue a career in filmmaking."
