Roberta
Grossman, produces documentaries for television. She
directed the feature documentary Homeland: Four Portraits of
Native Action, winner of the Fund for SB Social Justice Award
and the Audience Choice for Best Documentary at the 2005 Santa
Barbara International Film Festival. She is a developing a new
PBS series, to be directed by Chris Eyre, Indian Country: Native
Americans in the 20th Century. Grossman produced and co-wrote
the CBS series 500 Nations in 1995, an eight-hour documentary
on the history of Native Americans, and wrote the accompanying
Microsoft CD-Rom. Her extensive production and screenwriting credits
include works on gender and early Christianity. Her first film
was Sippie, a documentary about blues singer Sippie Wallace.
Grossman received an M.A. in producing from the American Film
Institute and a B.A. in history from the University of California
Berkeley. She lives in her hometown of Los Angeles, California.
"I make documentaries about things that make me mad, things
I'd like to see changed, or to tell stories that might not otherwise
be told."
