Jonathan (Tainui/Te Arawa/Mataatua), recently directed
the short film Hawaikii, which won Best Short Drama Awards
at the 2006 ImagineNative Film Festival in Toronto, Ontario and
at the Magma Film Festival in Rotorua, New Zealand. He has directed
television programs for Maori TV such as Mitre 10 Marae DIY,
a reality television program in which Maori community gathering
places are renovated, and Bro-Tour.com, a 28-day world
tour by Jonathan and co-host Bodie Taylor, which was also broadcast
on the internet. Jonathan has also directed Wannabes, a
program about children who want to be pop stars, for TV3. He studied
television production at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic in Tauranga,
New Zealand. Jonathan was born in Taumarunui, New Zealand, and
lives in Rotorua, New Zealand.
"Producing TV and film is the medium where I can combine
all my artistic skills in one. I've always loved the arts from
painting and music to photography. It was only natural for me
to make the transition to TV and film. I have a passion to inspire
all people through my Maori culture. We have a lot of stories
to tell the world and it's about time we start telling them."
