Coleen Rajotte (Cree/Metis) is a filmmaker from Winnipeg, Manitoba. With her work as an investigative reporter for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, she was one of the first aboriginal women to be seen regularly on mainstream television. Since 2000, Rajotte has worked as an independent filmmaker, establishing her own company, Rajotte Productions. Her documentary Jaynelle: It's Never Easy to Escape the Past won the Best Television Award at the 2002 imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival and the 2003 Blizzard Award for Best Aboriginal Program from the Manitoba Motion Pictures Association. She is the co-founder and artistic director of the Winnipeg Aboriginal Film and Video Festival, which takes place at the University of Winnipeg and gives special emphasis to the participation of indigenous youth.

"I strive to break stereotypes about aboriginal people. I want the public to understand how past government policies have led to some of the issues we struggle with today as aboriginal people."
